Updated: News from the 3rd ETU European Cadet Championships

Representatives of Great Britain have had a successful time at the 3rd European Cadet Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Results from Friday and Saturday’s competition days are as follows:

Jamie Abley (-41kgs) of Chi TKD was the first to impress at the 3rd European Cadet Championships. Jamie fought and beat Portugal, Bulgaria and Russia to get to the semi finals where he met Germany. Jamie unfortunately lost the semi-final put claimed a well deserved bronze medal as Germany went on to claim gold.

Tanika Harrison (-37kgs) won her first match against Belgium and met Bosnia & Herzegovina in the quarter finals but unfortunately didn't make it through to semis despite a very good effort.

Humoon Afsardeir (-33 kgs) and Thangaes Nithirajah (-37 kgs) also competed on Friday having tough first round matches against Russia and Turkey respectively but despite putting in good performances they didn't progress further in competition.

Saturday 27th July

George Lee (-57 kgs) won a well deserved Silver medal on the second day of competition after beating Cyprus in the first round to then face a closely contested match in quarter finals winning against Spain with Golden Point. George then beat Turkey in the semifinal 3-2,before facing Croatia in the final when he lost 5-2 after a real gutsy fight.

Amin Badr (-49 kgs) collected a well-earned bronze medal after winning his first match against Andorra, second match against Ireland before beating Belarus in the quarterfinals. Amin put in a good performance against Israel in Semi Finals where he put some good headshots but sadly lost 12-6.

Leighann Lewis (-51 kgs) beat Spain in a very close match 5:4 to face Russia in next match where she fought very hard but unfortunately didn't make it through to next round.

Sunday 28th July

Alexandra Thomas was the last representative of Great Britain and had a tough match against France and unfortunately lost 7 -  1.

Well done to all the players who travelled to Zagreb and also the coaching team of  Michael Georgiou and Richard Allen.
